Allergy Therapeutics to launch Anapen in UK, Ireland

Allergy Therapeutics is all set to introduce the updated Anapen 500mcg epinephrine auto-injector device in the UK and Ireland in early 2012.

The Anapen 500mcg, produced by Lincoln Medical, is an epinephrine auto-injector used in the treatment of allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis.

The Resuscitation Council of UK has recommended a dose of 500mcg of epinephrine for adults.

Cork University College Hospital Professor of Paediatrics Jonathan Hourihane said the launch of Anapen is a key development in treatment of adults at risk of anaphylaxis.

"Delay in receiving appropriate adrenaline is associated with severe adverse outcomes in anaphylaxis and a higher dose auto-injector has long been on the allergists’ wish list for their patients," Hourihane added.

The company obtained the exclusive distribution rights for Anapen in the UK and Ireland in September 2011.
